The Traffic Division was re-established in 1994 due to the increase of motor vehicle offenses and accidents involving speed within the city. The main purpose of the Traffic Division is enforcement of the Illinois Vehicle Code by way of a selective enforcement schedule. The Traffic Division would rather obtain voluntary compliance, however issuance of warnings and citations is sometimes necessary to convey our message and accomplish our goal.

In addition to traffic enforcement, the Traffic Division is responsible for investigating motor vehicle crashes and public education regarding traffic safety.

The Traffic Division is comprised of two full time sworn Police Officers. These Officers are specially trained to work within their area of expertise. One Officer is a certified accident reconstructionist. Both Officers work rotating shifts and are readily available to assist street operations if the need arises.
